Creative expression, yoga, & your fertility
There is a connection between art, yoga, and your fertility. It sounds a little outlandish, but it is true! Read on to find out how it all works.
Creative expression (art) can come in many different forms. It’s not just paint brushes and pastels (because if it were, I would not be expressing myself very often!) It can be writing, photography, soap making, flower arranging, dance, sculpture, singing, cooking, compiling the perfect playlist, coffee foam art! You get my drift, the list is almost endless.
Being able to express your experiences with your fertility through art can be an amazingly powerful tool – it provides an outlet for emotional release and exploration which will help to bring your fertility journey into perspective.
Sometimes, and I speak from my own fertility experiences, it is hard to be in touch with our emotions – we may feel ‘emotional’ – but sometimes not able to really pinpoint what we’re feeling. And often stress makes us more emotional! Our body holds onto these emotions as tension – which can often be hiding in the hips, pelvic floor, and lower abdominals (among other places).
Art and yoga can help untangle this mind/body connection and free up the connection to be more positive and free!
In yogic tradition, the pelvis and sacral areas are home to your creativity, fertility, and emotions.
The sacral (Svadhisthana) chakra is associated with your emotions, sexual desire, reproduction, and creativity. It is fluid in its nature, and cultivates confidence and desire. Yes – all of that hanging out in your pelvis!
So by nurturing and freeing your creative expression, you are also nurturing and freeing your fertility (as well as balancing emotions, confidence, and desire)! And this works the other way as well.
By moving your body through a pelvic centered yoga practice – you are not only benefiting physically (bringing oxygenated blood to reproductive organs), but you can also get more in tune with your creativity and your emotions.
You are literally embodying the mind/body connection when you allow your body the opportunity to process and work through your emotions – giving your mind a break.
Check out the workshops in the virtual studio for our next Move to Create: Art Therapy and Fertility workshop with Elena Clamen, LMHC.
Come to a Fertility Yoga class, move your pelvis, see what you loosen up and create. Feel the mind/body connection developing and how these tools can improve your quality of life. And when your quality of life is better, you see things more clearly, less frantically, and with less fear. In return your body will be more receptive to pregnancy.
